Chatham Manor, Fredericksburg, VA
Our National Park Service archives are located here at the magnificent Chatham Manor overlooking the town of Fredericksburg. I had the privilege of spending a few days there while gathering primary source information for my book on historical churches. Can you imagine going to work here everyday? Talk about a nice office! This gorgeous Georgian-style estate has witnessed more history than most buildings. It is one of only three in the entire country that was visited by both Presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. The gardens are spectacular, and the inside is mint. This particular photo was taken at the rear gate, very early in the morning, on a cloudy and overcast weekday.
