Gettysburg Battlefield, Adams County PA
This shot is a detail of the clover insignia from the Celtic cross monument honoring the Irish Brigade. It is one of my personal favorites of all the Federal markers on the field. This Union regiment was predominantly made up of Irish immigrants who had established a tremendous reputation for bravery. After receiving Last Rites from their Catholic chaplain, the fighting Irish charged courageously into the Wheatfield on the second day of the Battle of Gettysburg where they lost over 500 men.
