Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello, Virginia

This beautiful butterfly was from a large swarm that was feeding on the flower trees at Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello. These guys were flying everywhere on the garden grounds and I have never been closer to them. Jefferson was an avid gardener and experimented with many different types of seeds. These trees lined the deck-ways that led up to the sun porches at the main estate. I remembered my first visit to this magnificent plantation as a youth, and today I am just as awestruck as ever when I visit. I took over 90 photographs in a little under 4 hours.
